Live Healthy Iowa Kids’ Go The Distance Day is quickly approaching! On Friday, May 2, schools across Iowa are encouraged to celebrate healthy and active kids by taking part in this free, one-day event. Each school’s participation involves registering, planning for 30-minutes of continuous activity, holding the activity and reporting completion. All those who complete the event will have the chance to win cash prizes benefiting their school wellness program.
While this event is aimed at schools, we encourage parents and community members to get involved. Involvement may be as simple as an email to school leader’s supporting participation or the offer to lend resources or expertise to the planning of the event. Collaboration within the community is beneficial and rewarding for all!
This year Live Healthy Iowa Kids is offering 25- $100 mini-grants to support Go The Distance Day events. Applications are available and due April 9. Additionally, one lucky school will be chosen as the host site for Live Healthy Iowa Kids and receive a $500 mini-grant! To be eligible, schools must be registered for Go The Distance Day by April 11.
